Popi’s Steelhead Hole

I was born in the Pacific Northwest and grew up doing a lot of camping and hiking in the Giffort Pinchot National Forest. Sweet memories rest in me and often surface in my metalwork, water and rocks often the inspiration. The deep green pools on the Wind River where giant Steelhead lurk powerful, dark and mysterious inspired the entitled piece. I recall my Dad, Ed ( Popi ) dancing across the dark, flat rocks struggling to keep one of these giant fish on his line. I choose a hand carved Gem Silica, a rare and valuable variety of Chalcedony for it’s deep, dark, rich blue greens because it spoke to me and said, “ Popi’s Steelhead Hole! “
